A visit to Ribadavia and Pazos de Arenteiro

?? On Saturday, 24th of September we had the opportunity to visit Ribadavia and Pazos de Arenteiro – thanks to the Arzua City Council, who organizes a one day trip every month for the locals and has been kind enough to invite us for free. Last month we visited Bueu.

Ribadavia is a beautiful little town full on vineyards and history. It actually used to be the capital of Kingdom of Galicia between 1065 – 1071. To prove that they have rich history, they actually have a festival called “Festa da Istoria” or “Festival of History”, where most of the inhabitants dress up in old time clothes to try to recreate the atmosphere of old times. They even use a special currency called maravedi during the festival.

All in all, it was a really nice experience and I was surprised in a positive way.

?? El sábado 24 de septiembre tuvimos la oportunidad de visitar Ribadavia y Pazos de Arenteiro gracias al Ayuntamiento de Arzúa, que cada mes organiza una excursión de un día para los vecinos de la zona y ha tenido la amabilidad de invitarnos de forma gratuita. El mes pasado visitamos Bueu.

Ribadavia es un precioso pueblito lleno de viñedos e historia. De hecho, solía ser la capital del Reino de Galicia entre 1065 y 1071. Para demostrar que tienen una rica historia, en realidad tienen un festival llamado “Festa da Istoria” o “Festival de la Historia”, donde la mayoría de los habitantes se visten de ropa de antaño para intentar recrear el ambiente de antaño. Incluso usan una moneda especial llamada maravedi durante el festival.

En general, fue una experiencia muy agradable y me sorprendió de manera positiva.
