Not only activities in the Camino!

Not only  helping in the camino, the Tui’s group is also doing activities for the local community.

The original idea was to do a “Volunteering week”, where during all the week long one member per group lead an activity every day; for external reason we haven’t had the possibility to develop this week but, we reinvented! The “format” was basically the same, so every member of the group lead an activity, but we had to change a bit our plans and also the dates. In this post i’ll explain briefly some (not all) of the activities that we’ve done.

ACTIVITY 1: Inclusive walk with people with disabilities.

The first activity was a walk with San Xerome Association from a nearby town, A Guarda, that comes to Tui to have a short walk with us. People from that association had different difficulties, from mentally to phisically, and was not so easy for us to deal with them but, with the help of our and them cordinators, we spent a very nice morning and learnt a lot of new things.

ACTIVITY 2: ESC presentation in the youth centre.

To promote our activities and to spread knowledge about our volunteering we decided to have a presentation about what ESC Projects are and our experience, in order to let the youngsters know about the possibility of exploring Europe helping other people. The presentation was made in english, since it’s very important to communicate with people from all over the world in these project. It was a very interesting morning where we helped almost 10 youngsters to know what they wanna do in their next future.

ACTIVITY 3: “Guess where i’m from” game.

Last but not least we have decided to mix games and information in the streets of Tui. We’ve done a small game where tourists and local people try to guess where the volunteer comes from by small challenges like trying to guess from a typical song or from a tradition of that country. That’s not all, because we installed also an Infopoint where people that participated in that game received a small gift (typical spanish sweets) and information about ESC.

In general, all the activities were really funny and we learned and taught a lot of new things!

No solo ayudando en el camino, el grupo de Tui también está haciendo actividades para la comunidad local.

La idea original era hacer una “Semana del Voluntariado”, donde durante toda la semana un miembro por grupo liderara una actividad todos los días; por motivos externos no hemos tenido la posibilidad de desarrollar esta semana pero, ¡nos reinventamos!  El “formato” era básicamente el mismo, así que cada miembro del grupo dirigía una actividad, pero tuvimos que cambiar un poco nuestros planes y también las fechas. En este post explicaré brevemente algunas (no todas) de las actividades que hemos realizado.

ACTIVIDAD 1: Paseo inclusivo con personas con discapacidad.

La primera actividad fue un paseo con la Asociación San Xerome de un pueblo cercano, A Guarda, que viene a Tui a dar un pequeño paseo con nosotros. Las personas de esa asociación tenían diferentes dificultades, desde mentales hasta físicas, y no fue tan fácil para nosotros tratar con ellos pero, con la ayuda de nuestros y sus coordinadores, pasamos una mañana muy agradable y aprendimos muchas cosas nuevas.

ACTIVIDAD 2: Presentación CES en el Espazo Xove.

Para promover nuestras actividades y difundir el conocimiento sobre nuestro voluntariado, decidimos hacer una presentación sobre lo que son los Proyectos CES y nuestra experiencia, para que los jóvenes conozcan la posibilidad de explorar Europa ayudando a otras personas. La presentación se hizo en inglés, ya que es muy importante para comunicar con personas de todo el mundo en estos proyectos. Fue una mañana muy interesante en la que ayudamos a casi 10 jóvenes a saber qué quieren hacer en su próximo futuro.

ACTIVIDAD 3: Juego “Adivina de dónde soy”.

Por último, pero no menos importante, hemos decidido mezclar juegos e información en las calles de Tui. Hemos hecho un pequeño juego en el que los turistas y la gente local tratan de adivinar de dónde viene el voluntario mediante pequeños desafíos como tratar de adivinar de una canción típica o de una tradición de ese país. Eso no es todo, porque también instalamos un punto de información donde las personas que participaron en ese juego recibieron un pequeño regalo (dulces típicos españoles) e información sobre CES.

En general, todas las actividades fueron muy divertidas y aprendimos y enseñamos muchas cosas nuevas.
