Primera semana en la oficina de turismo

La semana pasada fue mi turno en la oficina de turismo y fue una experiencia bastante interesante. Yo trabaje en la que se encuentra en la Plaza de España, ya que Ferrol cuenta con dos puntos de información.

El primer día fue bastante estresante, ya que muchas personas acudieron para solicitar información sobre la ciudad, que hacer aquí, las visitas guiadas o los horarios de las salidas de los barcos en el puerto. También vinieron muchos turistas preguntando sobre la comarca de Ferrol, conocida como Ferrolterra, pueblos cercanos, playas, rutas de senderismo, monasterios, etc. Al principio no sabía muy bien qué decirles, porque no contaba con la mayoría de la información por la que preguntaban, pero los empleados de la oficina fueron muy amables y comprensivos conmigo y me resolvieron todas las dudas que me iban surgiendo.

El segundo día fue un poco más fácil, ya que no vinieron tantas personas y ya me había aprendido gran parte de la información importante sobre Ferrol. La mayoría de los turistas eran nacionales, pero también tuve la oportunidad de practicar mi inglés con algunos peregrinos y visitantes de otros países como Finlandia, Inglaterra o Italia. El resto de días fueron similares, pero ya contaba con más manejo de la situación por lo que me sentía más cómoda.

En general, creo que ha sido una semana bastante enriquecedora tanto a nivel personal como sobre el Camino. En relación al primer aspecto, he descubierto que el campo del turismo me resulta interesante y se me da bien y, por otro lado, tuve la oportunidad de realizar entrevistas a algunos peregrinos, conocer sus historias y sobre las credenciales y el sellado.

Last week was my turn at the tourist office and it was quite an interesting experience. I worked in the one located in Plaza de España, as Ferrol has two information points.

The first day was quite stressful, as many people came to ask for information about the city, what to do here, the guided tours or the departure times of the ships in the port. Many tourists also came asking about the region of Ferrol, known as Ferrolterra, nearby villages, beaches, hiking trails, monasteries, etc. At first I didn’t know what to tell them, because I didn’t have most of the information they were asking about, but the office staff were very kind and understanding and answered all my questions.

The second day was a bit easier, as not so many people came and I had already learnt most of the important information about Ferrol. Most of the tourists were nationals, but I also had the opportunity to practice my English with some pilgrims and visitors from other countries such as Finland, England or Italy. The rest of the days were similar, but I had a better command of the situation so I felt more comfortable.

Overall, I think it has been a very enriching week both on a personal level and on the Camino. In relation to the first aspect, I have discovered that the field of tourism is interesting and I am good at it and, on the other hand, I had the opportunity to conduct interviews with some pilgrims, learn about their stories and about the credentials and the stamping.
